This area, comprising five of Tokyo's 23 wards - Chiyoda, Chuo, Shinjuku, Minato and Shibuya - is known as the 'Central Tokyo Area'. This area has developed as a political, commercial and cultural centre for more than 400 years, as Edo Castle was originally located on the site of the current Imperial Palace. As a result, while the leading edge of the age can be felt in various parts of the area, it is also an area where various remnants of history from the Edo period to the present can be felt.
Chiyoda Ward
Chiyoda Ward is at the heart of the 23 wards. In addition to the Prime Minister's Office, the National Diet Building and other central government buildings, the ward is also home to unique neighbourhoods centred on the Imperial Palace, the ruins of the Edo Castle, including Bancho area, the most prestigious residential quarter in Japan, Marunouchi, Japan's best known business district, and Akihabara, a world-class electronics district and sub-culture centre.
Chuo Ward
Chuo Ward has a long history and retains its old-fashioned atmosphere, with places such as Nihonbashi, the starting point of highways to all parts of Japan, and Tsukiji, where you can find high-quality foodstuffs. On the other hand, there are also modern, high-end areas such as Ginza, one of Japan's leading luxury brand districts, and the Bay Area, including Harumi and Tsukishima, which was part of the main area for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where tradition and the modern coexist.

Minato Ward
Minato Ward is renowned for its brand image. The so-called 'Triple A' areas of Akasaka, Azabu and Aoyama, the luxurious residential districts of Shirokane and Takanawa, Roppongi and Shimbashi with their high-rise office buildings as well as premium flats, and the rapidly developing coastal areas of Shiodome and Daiba, showcase the status of living and working here.

Shibuya Ward
Shibuya Ward is home to Shibuya Station, one of Tokyo's most popular shopping streets. It is a centre of fashion and trends, and is home to many commercial facilities. Despite being in the heart of the city, there are also many green areas such as Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park, as well as Ebisu, which consistently ranks high in "Best Places to Live" surveys, and Shoto, an upmarket residential area, making it a great living environment.
Shinjuku Ward
Shinjuku Ward continues to develop around Shinjuku Station, has the world's highest number of passengers. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the high-rise office district of Western Shinjuku and Kabukicho, the 'town that never sleeps', are located here, while the Takadanobaba area, with its concentration of universities and other educational institutions, and Ochiai, a residential area in the city centre with a rapidly growing population, comprise areas for people of all ages.
