Confirming Disaster Prevention Equipment
On the 26th, Cosmos Initia Co., Ltd. reported on its initiatives aimed at fostering and enhancing self-help and mutual assistance awareness among residents during disasters at a condominium for active seniors, which has been ongoing for a year.
The project was conducted in collaboration with Inochi to Bunka Co., Ltd., Daiwa Life Next Co., Ltd., and Cosmos Life Support Co., Ltd. It has been underway since October 2023 at "Inicia Grand Sapporo East" (Chuo Ward, Sapporo), supplied by Cosmos Initia. Although the facility has staff on-site 24/7, there is a possibility that staff may also be affected during disasters, highlighting the need for residents to have disaster preparedness awareness. Consequently, the initiative began. Activities included understanding the surrounding area, conducting seminars on the necessity of preparation during normal times, and creating disaster response manuals using the facility's specialized disaster response manual and Daiwa Life Next's condominium disaster service "manbow."
On November 20, 2024, a disaster drill was held as a culmination of these efforts, with 22 residents participating. They confirmed the locations and usage of emergency staircases, disaster storage areas, and disaster prevention equipment. The event also encouraged the sharing of awareness regarding community support. Residents expressed positive feedback, stating, "It was great to receive explanations while actually moving around the facility," and "I realized the things I need to do myself, like disaster supplies and preventing furniture from tipping over." This indicated a growing awareness of self-help and mutual assistance, with the sentiment that "we must do what we can ourselves."
