About the Josai area(Nakano, Suginami and Nerima wards)

This area, comprising three of Tokyo's 23 wards - Nakano, Suginami and Nerima - is known as the 'Josai (castle west)area' because it is located to the west of the former Edo Castle ( now the Imperial Palace). This area was developed into residential areas as a result of the railway development and the influx of people following the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. The area continues to develop as a residential area with a large influx of people, thanks to the characteristics of the plateau, which has a hard ground and is resistant to earthquake shaking and liquefaction.

Nakano Ward

Nakano Ward has many shopping and residential areas and is home to people of various generations, despite its proximity to urban centers such as Shinjuku Ward. It is characterised by a number of shops that are irresistible to enthusiasts and collectors, including Nakano Broadway, which attracts attention from home and abroad as a sacred place for subcultures. On the other hand, in recent years, the development of the Nakano Four Seasons City has attracted universities and businesses to the area, which has helped to attract a new segment of the population.

Suginami ward

Suginami Ward is a residential area with two faces: the good qualities of the city center and the good qualities of the suburbs. Suginami Ward is home to some of the most exclusive residential areas, such as Eifuku and Hamadayama, but also has a more folksy side, with many vibrant shopping streets and lively local events. The Tanabata Festival in Asagaya and the Awaodori dance in Koenji attract more than 800,000 people from inside and outside the ward respectively, and have become a summer tradition in Tokyo that people look forward to every year.

Nerima Ward

Nerima Ward is known as the birthplace of Japanese animation. Oizumi-Gakuen Station, where Toei Animation is located, is home to many spots unique to the 'sacred land', such as Oizumi Anime Gate and Oizumi Yumeiru Shopping Street, where nearly 100 animation production companies are located. In addition to convenient access to the city center, the ward has the largest number of greenery and parks in Tokyo's 23 wards, including Hikarigaoka Park and Shakujii Park, and has developed into a residential area that offers both convenience and a green living environment.
